NOVEMBER
Perennials & Annuals:
  • After allowing perennial foliage to die back naturally, cut back to 1-2".
  • Remove plant debris to avoid reoccurring disease and insect problems.
  • If you prefer, leave foliage and seed heads for wildlife, i.e. birds, and/or winter decoration.
Roses:
  • Tie up with twine to guard against damaging winter winds and heavy snow. Do not cut back canes in the fall.
  • Cover with 1-2" of soil or mulch (* after ground is frozen).
  • Refer to accompanying page of diagrams and explanations.

* Critters are looking for winter homes before the ground freezes. Therefore if mulch is laid before the ground is frozen these critters will make your mulch their home and your plant material their winter feed.
