- Continue spraying for pest and disease control as necessary. This should supplement, not replace, prevention practices such as removal of infected plant parts and increased air circulation.
- Spider mites may appear which can be a major problem and cause severe injury when temperatures
rise into the 80's. Leaves will look blotchy light yellow and you may see webbing on the underside
of the leave surfaces. Further damage will cause defloiation. Mites are almost invisible to the
naked eye, but can be viewed with a 5x magnifier. Their gestation period is three days from egg
to larvae to adult, so immediate action is neccessary. They prefer dry, hot weather. Rain and
cooler temps will slow down their breeding, but will not eliminate them. Remove infected leaves
then spray with a miticide such as Avid or Hexagon. Be sure to spray the underside of the leave
surfaces two times three days apart to control.
